SkyBridge on Stevenson combines grass-roots community activism & public-private partnerships. We sat down with our community, listened to their voice, and are seeing the space evolve. Follow the journey below.

New Lanterns

To build on the work of John Lucca, COZO was commissioned to create new custom lanterns to hang across Stevenson Street. John strung-up lights on the 6th Street side of the block and jumpstarted the conversation around investing more resources into the area so the space feels more inviting. As a nod to SOMA Pilipinas, the Filipino Cultural District, the lanterns feature the Philippine sun. When lit, these brass lanterns will cast shadows of the graphical textures in the lanterns onto the surrounding walls and streetscape. The spark for change starts with John Lucca of Montesacro, whose Roman Pinseria (rice flour pizza) restaurant has rapidly bloomed into one of the City’s must-eats.

SENECA Hotel murals

SF-based artist Slyvester created a touching series of art pieces near the Seneca Hotel. Mounted along at the corner of 6th and Stevenson, the work interacts with the daily activity of the neighborhood and serves as an iconic, localized point-of-interest + entry point into the SkyBridge on Stevenson experience.

Ho0p Dreams

The Fall of 2019 brought a new surprise to Stevenson Street, the UNDSCVRD Court. This two-month pop-up activation featured a three-on-three basketball tournamet, dance classes in the evening, food trucks, pick-up basketball throughout the day, and weekly live music produced by local resident Andrew Sullivan.

Filipino night markets

In Summer and Fall of 2019, UNDSCVRD SF relocates their popular cultural night market series to the 500 block of Stevenson Street – right under the SkyBridge. The night markets completely transform the block with four months of cultural performances, exciting culinary experiences, and artisan shopping – a vision of what's possible on Stevenson Street.

Community partnerships

In Spring & Summer of 2019, several community stakeholder meetings convened to develop a strategic plan for the 500 block of Stevenson Street. Zendesk, the Mid-Market CBD, SFMTA, & OEWD committed investment in new streetscaping and lighting elements, alongside a series of events, with SF Parks Alliance set to manage the project.
